mselect is looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Sales for an oil and gas service client in Baghdad, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on pump systems in downstream oil & gas facilities. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

Job Purpose
We are seeking a commercially driven Senior Mechanical Engineer with specialized expertise in pumps used in downstream oil and gas facilities. The ideal candidate will bridge technical knowledge and business strategy to support sales, client engagement, and project success. This role includes evaluating client requirements, preparing technical-commercial proposals, and maintaining long-term client relationships to drive growth.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Commercial:
  • Engage with clients to understand technical and commercial requirements for pump systems in downstream oil and gas operations
  • Prepare and review technical-commercial proposals, including equipment selection, costing, and pricing strategies
  • Support the business development team in responding to tenders and RFQs with a focus on pumps and related equipment
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and contract negotiations to close deals and build long-term partnerships
  • Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, and customer feedback to improve the company's competitive edge
Design and Engineering Support:
  • Develop and review engineering designs, technical specifications, and calculations for centrifugal and positive displacement pumps used in downstream processes
  • Assist in pump selection, sizing, and material specification based on process requirements and service conditions
  • Evaluate hydraulic performance and system integration of pumps within process units
Vendor and OEM Coordination:
  • Liaise with OEMs and suppliers for technical support, procurement, and warranty management
  • Review and approve vendor documents, including data sheets, operation manuals, and drawings
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain comprehensive records of pump specifications, client interactions, and project proposals
  • Prepare technical reports and progress updates for internal stakeholders and clients
Training and Mentorship:
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians on best practices in pump technology and commercial strategy
  • Deliver training sessions on pump system design, proposal development, and client engagement techniques

Requirements

Education:
Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on pump systems in downstream oil & gas facilities
  • Proven track record in supporting sales, technical proposal development, and client engagement related to pump systems
Certifications:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
  • Certification in vibration analysis, hydraulic systems, or condition monitoring is a plus
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of pump fundamentals, including NPSH, BEP, and pump curves
  • Proficiency in diagnostic and selection tools
  • Familiarity with engineering design software (e.g. AutoPIPE, Caesar II, ANSYS, or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required
