mselect is looking to hire a Chief Accountant for an Industrial client in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and be fluent in English and Arabic.
Position Purpose:
Chief accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing month-end closing procedures. A successful chief accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyse financial reports and forecasts.

Key Accountabilities:
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable, receivable, and Fixed assets
- Create error-free accounting reports and present their outcome
- Analyse the financial information and epitomize financial status
- Detect errors and suggest ways to improve spending and efficiency
- Extend technical support and advice on accounting management
- Review and advise modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Manage accounting assistants and bookkeepers
- Contribute to financial standards setting and, in the forecast, process
- Plan input into the department’s goal-setting process
- Produce budget according to schedule and prepare financial statements
- Support with tax audits and tax returns
- Guidance internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Advance and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Liaise with the Financial manager to improve financial procedures
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- Comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Knowledgeable with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing processes
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like Oracle, MS Dynamics, FreshBooks, and QuickBooks
- Advanced MS Excel skills to initiate dashboards and complex data analysis
- Accuracy and attention to detail, aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, in addition to relevant certification (e.g., CMA or CPA) will be preferred
