mselect is looking to hire an OHTL Mechanical Work Supervisor for an international energy client in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have at least 5-6 years of progressive experience in construction power plant site management, preferably with prior experience managing overhead transmission lines and/or steel structure works. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

Job Purpose
The OHTL Mechanical work supervisor has core responsibility in supervising the Mechanical construction activities being executed on the site and related to the OHTLs. The OHTL Mechanical supervisor is responsible for overseeing and supervising the Mech. Construction activities for the Overhead Transmission Lines and the personnel of supervision Mechanical activities performed by the EPC Contractor establish liaison with the Electrical superintendent and other Site team, HSE SPV and AQ/QC SPV to ensure that activities are performed and delivered as per HSE standards, with required quality, on time, and in safe conditions.

Key Activities

Project Construction Management:
  • Ensure that Mech activities, specifications, quality, and safety objectives and standards
  • Conduct daily site inspections, monitor site progress, and enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental
  • regulations Address issues to the Construction Site Manager
  • Responsible for maintaining detailed site records and reports, ensuring that Contractors site supervisors are equipped with
  • necessary and adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to perform the works
  • Coordinate with the QA/QC engineer to attend the necessary and required inspections, raising non-conformities, and following up on the resolution of quality issues
Schedule Management and Reporting:
  • Ensure that OHTL Mechanical work progress aligns with project planning
  • Supervise and guide the OHTL Mech construction team, and subcontractors in terms of project progress and planning
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the Construction site Manager
  • Control the Site Personnel on Board (POB)
  • Coordinate with the site planner to build necessary KPIs for construction activities and follow up on actual progress versus planned
  • Ensure that critical activities are executed according to schedule
  • Daily management of on-site personnel, such as hours present, activities performed, and absences, for the personnel reporting directly
  • Propose site solutions to avoid progress impact and change order requests
Safety Management and Compliance:
  • Establish clear safety protocols, rules, and standard operating procedures for all work activities
  • Ensure that all tasks are supported by risk assessments to identify potential hazards, implement control measures, and develop
  • method statements for safe execution
  • Ensure adequate safety signage, barricades, and personal protective equipment (PPE) are provided and used properly
  • Supervise and monitor safety practices, promoting the Safety Stop Card program
  • Enforce disciplinary actions for safety violations to reinforce a culture of compliance
  • Ensure comprehensive site-specific safety orientation and training are organized for all workers and subcontractors
  • Organize regular toolbox talks and safety meetings to discuss hazards, and procedures, and reinforce safety awareness before starting site activities
  • Ensure proper maintenance of safety documentation, including permits, inspections, and records
  • Communicate safety updates, changes in regulations, and best practices to the project team
  • Verify that subcontractors comply with site safety rules and their safety programs
  • Ensure equipment, tools, and machinery are properly inspected, maintained, recorded, and operated safely
  • Review safety performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Communication and Coordination:
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ensure clear and effective communication between various teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders on-site
  • Resolve conflicts and misunderstandings arising from poor communication
Team Management and Leadership:
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment on-site
  • Resolve conflicts and implement appropriate solutions

Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 5-6 years of progressive experience in construction Power plant site management, preferably with prior experience managing Over Head Transmission Line (OHTL) and/or Steel Structure works
  • EPC background and experience are a must and a minimum of 2 project construction completed
  • Be knowledgeable on international standards and 'best practices' about construction
  • Be knowledgeable on environmental legislation and good industry practices about construction works
  • IT proficiency: MS Word, MS Excel, or similar
  • Fluency in English and Arabic
