mselect is looking to hire a Laboratory Analyst for an international oil and gas operator in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in an Oilfield analytical laboratory related to Oil & Gas or Refinery Industries. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

Job Purpose
To provide routine analysis of gas, oil and water/effluent samples in the laboratory in CPF and DS1 in accordance with standard laboratory procedures at the skilled level, daily report the results of analysis, and ensure that the Company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures are in place to maximize Loss Prevention without subordinates in the exception.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site sampling and analysis
  • Implement operational laboratory testing programs in accordance with Company policy and professional standards
  • Ask for details on receipt of samples, oversee the analytical consequences
  • Be responsible for the preparation and planning of the work to be carried out within the workgroup
  • Reasonably arrange the activities to take priorities into account
  • Identify bottlenecks in the progress of testing and submit proposals for improvement
  • Perform first-line maintenance & calibrate laboratory equipment/diagnoses faults in equipment
  • Has knowledge of statistics (ASTM D6299) & applies this with SQC
  • Check whether the results obtained correspond to the expected values/trends/specifications
  • Authorize analysis results in a computer database (LIMS-sample manager)
  • Ensure contained compliance with the laboratory quality management system
  • Contribute to and maintain high HSE standards and housekeeping, both within the laboratory and during onsite testing
  • Discusses with lab supervisor & accepts non-routine work requests
  • Work effectively/efficiently at elevated work pressure
  • Liaise with the lab supervisor to coordinate maintenance, to discuss lab system improvement proposals

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Diploma in Chemistry/Petroleum or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in oilfield analytical laboratory related to Oil & Gas or Refinery Industries
  • Good understanding of and demonstrable hands-on experience in all functional aspects of Cost Engineering including estimating, budgeting, forecasting, commitment control, change control, variations, contract management, and/or claims analysis
  • MS Office: Excel (intermediate), Word (Intermediate), PowerPoint (Intermediate)
  • English – upper intermediate (verbal & written)
  • SAP – intermediate
  • Proven supervisory skills
  • Communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Focus on continuous self-learning and improvement
  • Ability to work cohesively and communicate successfully in multi-cultural teams whilst being aware of and sensitive to cultural differences
  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and manage cost data flow interfaces with each function
  • Demonstrable experience in the ability to prepare meaningful reports, in clear and concise English, utilizing information and data received from third parties, SAP (or equivalent system) and own analyses
  • Computer literacy
