mselect is looking to hire a SCADA Engineer for an international energy client in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing SCADA activities in the energy industry. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.

Job Purpose
The SCADA Engineer is accountable for the good performance of the SCADA and monitoring systems, aiming for a safe, optimised, cost-efficient and reliable performance of the plant, in compliance with the relevant policies, to ensure the correct execution of the operation and maintenance activities of the solar plant.

Main Activities
  • Oversee the operation and optimisation of advanced control and monitoring systems within control rooms or supervision centres of production for Solar
  • Responsible for operating the control room, including maintenance of equipment, software, inspections and safety protocols
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability and safety of production operations
  • Lead team of operators providing expertise and orientations to the operational site
  • Promote safety culture and impeccable business ethics through leading by example
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the operator’s team in a multi-cultural environment

Operational Activities
  • Actively participate in the commissioning activities and start-up sequence, and bring technical support
  • Ensure issuance of punch points for all control, monitoring and metering systems and supervise closure with the EPC team
  • Ensure with the EPC team that all project deliverables, documentation, spare parts, warranties, software with settings and passwords will be handed over to Solar at the Provisional Acceptance Date of Unit 1
  • Cybersecurity: facilitate and ensure the application of the relevant cybersecurity policies, standards and requirements applicable to Solar operation and data communications, coordinating and auditing external providers when relevant
  • Define the annual purchasing strategy in terms of spare parts related to the control and monitoring systems
  • Review and control the standardization of materials and spare parts, as well as stock quantities, usage and consumption for preventive and corrective defect maintenance
  • Plant connectivity: plan, organize, supervise and monitor all processes related to data communication (including associated grid connection facilities) and remote service providers, control centers, grid operators, energy market trading representatives, physical or cloud-based platforms, and similar, both before and after the start of Commercial Operation of solar
  • Responsible for the annual definition and performance of the general maintenance plans of the SCADA systems and control and monitoring systems, including preventive maintenance and debugging to ensure optimal performance and cost
  • Propose new SCADA maintenance procedures for obsolescence management
  • Ensure the good performance of the different SCADA & industrial IT Systems, including the computerised maintenance management system and control and monitoring systems of the plant’s equipment, such as inverters, trackers, MV and HV transformers
  • For the industrial IT/SCADA systems (hardware, software and infrastructures), detect technical issues, take initiative to resolve them, monitor the resolution, manage technical warranties and claims and/or contractors
  • Analyse the updates and retrofits needed to improve the performance of the different control and monitoring systems
  • Coordinate, monitor, and supervise the main contracts and supplies for industrial IT & telecommunication products and services

Other Activities
  • Manage the procurement/development and the technical deployment of the IT platforms and tools chosen for asset management and/or operation & maintenance. Monitor their performance over time and manage updates, upgrades and improvements
  • Digitalization: explore possibilities offered by Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics for optimization of Solar assets
  • Evaluate, propose and lead the implementation of innovative IT solutions and tools for Operation & Maintenance
  • Companioning/training of local junior Iraqi SCADA engineers and development of the training plan from a SCADA discipline standpoint
  • Provide inputs for the supervision team training requirements for the operation phase

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical & Automation Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing SCADA activities in the energy industry
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, industrial remote control and monitoring systems, instrumentation, especially for energy generation or transmission
  • Strong understanding of solar plant operations, equipment and engineering best practices
  • Knowledge of the main data communication protocols used in industrial contexts
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity (concepts, norms, standards, procedures)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • The jobholder shall be prepared to work in a remote area and be self-motivated
  • Demonstrates strong autonomy and professional rigor in work execution
  • Fluency in Arabic and English
